2024 French tax calendar

16/04/2024
Don't forget the French tax return deadlines for 2024!

The French tax return campaign for 2023 officially opened on 11 April 2024. In this article, Rosemont gives you an overview of the deadlines to be met this year:

Income tax returns :
The deadlines for filing income tax returns for 2023 vary depending on the taxpayer's département of residence on 1 January 2024 and whether the tax return is filed online or on paper. The deadlines are as follows
  • 21 May 2024 at 11.59pm: for paper returns, regardless of place of residence
  • 23 May 2024 at 11.59pm: for départements 01 to 19 and nonresidents;
  • 30 May 2024 at 11.59pm: for départements 20 to 54 ;
  • 6 June 2024 at 11.59pm: for departments 55 to 976.

Note: Please note that from this year onwards, the full addresses of adult or married children who are attached to their parents' tax household must be given if they are different from those of their parents.
A compulsory questionnaire is also inserted at the end of the process, to remind them of their obligation to declare changes in the occupation of their property and direct them, if necessary, to the "Manage my property" service.

IFI declaration (Impôt sur la Fortune Immobilière) :
Anyone with property assets worth more than €1.3 million is subject to the Impôt sur la Fortune Immobilière (property wealth tax) and must therefore submit a declaration each year.
This relates to all properties held worldwide by French tax residents, or to all property located in France for non-residents.
The declaration is made on a supplementary declaration no. 2042-IFI and must be submitted according to the same timetable as the income tax return.
Find out more about the IFI in our article: l'Impôt sur la Fortune Immobilière en France (in French only).

Property tax returns:
From 2023, taxe d'habitation has been abolished for all main residences, and remains applicable to other premises such as vacant premises and second homes.
If there is a change in the title to the property between 2 January 2023 and 1 January 2024, owners (individuals and legal entities) must declare this before 1 July 2024.
