Closer co-operation between Andorra and Monaco

01/07/2022
Earlier in June a delegation of government representatives of Monaco met with their counterparts in Andorra to discuss further opportunities for closer co-operation between the two European Principalities.

Attending the meetings was Isabelle Berro-Amadeï  the Monaco Government Minister, who met with the Andorran Head of Government, Xavier Espot Zamora, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Ubach Font, the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Landry Riba and the President of the Assembly, Roser Suné.

The discussions centered on the continuing negotiations between the Principalities and the EU with a view to entering an association agreement with the EU and the forthcoming meeting between the chief negotiators, Andorra, San Marino and Monaco.

The Principalities took the opportunity to discuss an Andorran proposal that the existing cordial relations and joint cooperation are formalised in a memorandum of understanding with the intention of accelerating the process and the level of cooperation between the States. Further details of the accord will be given later in the course of the year.

Discussions were also pursued on the States entering a double tax agreement with the intention of executing and implementing a treaty in the course of the coming years to avoid double taxation between the jurisdictions.

The meetings concluded with the Andorran Head of Government and the President of the Assembly cordially welcoming the continuing dialogue and cooperation, with the Monaco Government Minister reported as stating "This visit contributes to strengthening our already very close ties of friendship and allows us to envisage new areas of development in fields of common interest."

We await further positive developments with interest.
